Slicers<\/strong> are special field filters that can be applied to Excel tables. They are most useful for further dissecting an existing PivotTable<\/strong> report in a worksheet. Slicers<\/strong> are actually graphics objects comprising of a rectangle and special filter buttons. Slicers<\/strong> are inserted into the worksheet from the Slicer<\/strong> command on the INSERT<\/strong> tab of the ribbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Steps to create slicers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

STEP 1<\/span><\/strong>:
Click anywhere in the PivotTable<\/strong> within the worksheet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong>:
Click on the Insert<\/strong> tab, then click the Slicer in the Filters group to display the Insert slicers<\/strong> dialog box
This box shows a tick box next to each of the fields from the data source\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEP 3<\/span><\/strong>:
Click on the tick box for Salesperson<\/strong> and click on [OK] to display a Slicer box with the salespeople in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEP 4<\/span><\/strong>:
Click on Hector Smith<\/strong> to see only the sales made by Hector Smith OR click on Mary O’Dwyer<\/strong> to see only the sales made by Mary O’Dwyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEP 5<\/span><\/strong>:
Click on Clear Filter<\/strong> in the Slicer<\/strong> box to see all of the sales again<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To insert<\/strong> a slicer<\/strong> into a PivotTable<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Click anywhere in the PivotTable<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click on the INSERT<\/strong> tab and click on Slicer in the Filters<\/strong> group<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Tick the field(s) to slice and click on [OK]<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Handy to Know:<\/strong>
    You can filter on more than one field. To do this click on the first sample, then hold down the \u2018Ctrl\u2019 button on your keyboard and click on subsequent samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
