Yes. Microsoft 365 Copilot (the full version embedded across all apps) requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence, which is an add-on to your existing Microsoft 365 subscription. As of 2026, this is available to subscribers of Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, E3, and E5. There are also free or lower-cost versions of Copilot available, Copilot in Windows, Copilot in Bing, and limited Copilot features in the free Microsoft 365 tier, but these have less functionality. Our trainers can help you understand which Copilot tier you are working with at the start of your training.

No. Our Copilot Essentials and Copilot for Productivity courses require no technical background. The only prerequisite is that you use Microsoft 365 applications in your daily work: Word, Outlook, Teams, and so on. Copilot is designed for regular business users, and our training reflects that. You do not need to understand AI, machine learning, or programming to become highly effective with Copilot.

A prompt is the instruction you give Copilot; the text you type to tell it what you want. Prompt engineering is the skill of writing prompts that reliably produce high-quality, relevant outputs. It is arguably the most important skill to develop when learning any AI tool, including Copilot. A poorly written prompt produces a generic, often unusable result. A well-crafted prompt produces output that is specific, accurate, and immediately useful. All of our Copilot courses include dedicated time for prompt-writing techniques, and participants leave with a personal prompt library for their specific role.

This is one of the most common questions we receive, and it is an important one. Microsoft 365 Copilot is built on Microsoft's enterprise security and compliance framework. It does not use your organisation's data to train AI models. It operates within your existing Microsoft 365 security boundaries, meaning Copilot can only access data that the user already has permission to access. For Australian organisations, Microsoft processes Microsoft 365 data in Australian data centres (Australia East and Australia Southeast regions), subject to the terms of your Microsoft agreement. Our training includes a dedicated section on responsible use, privacy considerations, and how to set appropriate expectations with your team about what Copilot should and should not be used for.

Not entirely, and our training is honest about this. Copilot is a productivity multiplier, not a substitute for foundational software skills. The better your understanding of Excel, Word, or PowerPoint, the better you can direct Copilot and evaluate its outputs. A user who understands Excel formulas will immediately recognise whether a Copilot-suggested formula is correct. A user who has never used Excel may not. We recommend pairing Copilot training with foundational Microsoft skills training for participants who are less experienced.
